Orlando Shooting & News Articles.
The gist of all the news articles overall were informative on the Orlando Shooting, yet each focused in on something different within the shooting. The NYT article alludes to past events of tragedy regarding gun rights as well as other usually politically loaded subjects (“Guns. Gay rights. Islamic extremism. Immigration. Latinos. Guns.”) Similarly, the Fox News article focuses on the gunman’s allegiance to ISIS.

Whereas NYT and Fox were obvious in giving into political agendas within their articles the CNN report stuck to a rather neutral explanation providing quotes from multiple sources and giving a timeline of facts in the beginning of the report. The scholarly article was very different than the news article, considering it is technically a different genre. Although the article did provide facts and information from the shooting, it mostly just took the event and created a theory from it. The primary purpose of news articles as a genre are to present true & fair accounts of issues and events, whilst remaining unbiased. The articles, especially NYT and Fox, deviate from the norms of News Articles in that they aren’t as objective as journalist should be (at least expected to be); the result from this is a jaded audience and loss of reliability.
